4 Rituals that Will Keep You Happy, According to Neuroscience

Image
Everything is interconnected. Gratitude improves sleep. Sleep reduces pain. Reduced pain improves your mood. Improved mood reduces anxiety, which improves focus and planning. Focus and planning help with decision making. Decision making further reduces anxiety and improves enjoyment. Enjoyment gives you more to be grateful for, which keeps that loop of the upward spiral going. Enjoyment also makes it more likely you’ll exercise and be social, which, in turn, will make you happier.  - Alex Kord, neuroscientist, UCLA Ask “What am I grateful for?” No answers? Doesn’t matter. Just searching helps. Label those negative emotions. Give it a name and your brain isn’t so bothered by it. Decide. Go for “good enough” instead of “best decision ever made on Earth.” Hugs, hugs, hugs. Don’t text — touch. Read the full article on TIME.com .

Los Francisco San Austin

Image
Hi all, there's a new post on what is now called: Los Francisco San Austin . Sofia (based in SF), Nora (based in Austin) and I have decided to team up and write about what we do in our respective cities. We haven't solidified a rhyme or reason behind what we'll post, so it may seem scattered at first--bear with us. We also kept some older posts (from the pre-Nora era) and so you can browse through those if you like.

Some things to remember

"A smile is the cheapest way to look cute." -some random yoga teacher I had once "You need to understand that it is okay that you are still learning.  Don't pretend to yourself or others that you know everything or that you don't have room to grow.  I don't think thats what confidence is really.  You gotta be willing to make mistakes and then acknowledge them in the open and learn from them.  If you hold yourself in such high regard that your world crumbles at the slightest slip-up then you might be bullshitting yourself." - my wise beyond his years boyfriend This horse and this truth .
